1.2. Credit scores

If you look up credit history and credit reports online, you will find a lot of references to “credit scores”. This is basically a rating that’s given based on the information listed on your credit report.

In the US (and some other countries), credit scores play a vital role in helping people apply and get approval for credit cards and other loans. In Australia, most lenders have their own set of loan criteria and their own way of assessing credit reports. Any credit score you get won’t be that useful right now, although this could change in the future.
